Grant Half
I was awarded a Pell grant but withdrew from the school. The school sent me a check for the unused funds.?
Can I use that money to start paying back my unsubsidized loan from Direct Loans, even though I did not compete the course of study? Also, there is still half the Pell grant which was not yet disbursed. Can I still access those funds and under what conditions?
You need to give the money back to the school, since you withdrew completely you will be required to pay it back. The school's fin aid office just may take a bit to realize it before they send you a letter asking you return the check.
If you withdrew too early in the semester you may still be required to pay your tuition costs (because you withdrew you are not eligible to get financial aid and it is sent back to the Dept of Ed).
It kinds stinks having to pay TWICE (to the school and to pay back your fin aid) for classes you don't even get credit for.
Call your school before you do ANYTHING with the money so you don't end up stuck not being able to go back to school until you pay both the school and the Dept of Ed and the school.
